چکیده

The migration of UMTS carrier frequencies to the 2 GHz band has stimulated interest in radio coverage in urban environments. This paper examines the problem of poor signal quality close to buildings. It uses simulation based on approximate propagation models in a “generic” urban environment to estimate the relationship between size of coverage black spots and distance from the serving BS. Consideration is also given to the possibility of using channels allocated to in-building picocells as a means of mitigating against coverage black spots.

Navigation of a Mobile Robot Using Virtual Potential Field and Artificial Neural Network

Mobile robot navigation is one of the basic problems in robotics. In this paper, a new approach is proposed for autonomous mobile robot navigation in an unknown environment. The proposed approach is based on learning virtual parallel paths that propel the mobile robot toward the track using a multi-layer, feed-forward neural network. For training, a human operator navigates the mobile robot in ...

3D coverage analysis of LTE urban heterogeneous networks with dense femtocell deployments

Femtocell technology recently gained attention due to its potential benefits for mobile operators (significant capacity offload and extension of the coverage at low cost) but there are still hard technical challenges to be addressed (e.g., the optimization of the interference management). Furthermore, the deployment strategies are still in question, such as the femtocell access-mode (open or cl...

Controlled-mobile Sensor Networks for Dynamic Sensing and Monitoring Applications

Many potential indoor sensing and monitoring applications are characterized by hazardous and constantly-changing operating environments. For example, consider emergency response scenarios such as urban fire rescue. Traditionally, first responders have little access to situational information. In-situ information about the conditions, such as the extent and evolution of the indoor fire, can augm...

Dynamic Obstacle Avoidance by Distributed Algorithm based on Reinforcement Learning (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this paper we focus on the application of reinforcement learning to obstacle avoidance in dynamic Environments in wireless sensor networks. A distributed algorithm based on reinforcement learning is developed for sensor networks to guide mobile robot through the dynamic obstacles. The sensor network models the danger of the area under coverage as obstacles, and has the property of adoption o...
